Ø After 32 years, the men’s singles gold in
Badminton from the Commonwealth Games is back in India. The man making it
possible was P. Kashyap. Parupalli Kashyap is a badminton player from India. He trains at Gopichand Badminton
Academy and is supported by Olympic Gold Quest, a not-for-profit foundation
supporting Indian athletes.
Ø LOK SABHA TELEVISION (LSTV), which telecasts
live the proceedings of the Lok Sabha besides a whole range of programmes of
general interest, will soon have a new chief. A recent order by the Speaker Sumitra Mahajan not only
envisages change in the nomenclature of its head but also lays down minimum
qualification for the job. Instead of CEO, LSTV will now be led by an “Editor-in-Chief-cum-Chief Executive”.
Ø BOOK: “My Years with
Rajiv & Sonia” by R D Pradhan, former aide of Sonia Gandhi. The book
contradicts Natwar Singhs claims that Sonia Gandhi wasn’t PM because she was afraid
of assassination. The book claims that she decided not to be PM from 1999.

Artist
Jogen Chowdhury has been invited by the Rashtrapati Bhavan to
be its first artist in residence. Jogen Chowdhury, Member of Parliament
(Rajya Sabha); professor emeritus of Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan and
former keeper (art) at Rashtrapati Bhavan (1972-87) has been invited to be the
inaugural artist to stay there. Several of Mr. Chowdhury’s paintings
already form part of the Rashtrapati Bhavan’s art collection. Mr. Chowdhury
will stay at Rashtrapati Bhavan for 14 days beginning Monday. The
in-residence scheme was launched by President Pranab Mukherjee in December last
year.
