Ø Kamla Beniwal, who had less than four more months in office,
has been removed as Governor of Mizoram. President Pranab Mukherjee directed
that Dr. Beniwal will cease to hold the office.

Ø The two-day 18th BASIC countries (Brazil, South
Africa, India and China) Ministerial Meeting will get under way in New Delhi to
discuss important issues relating to the current United Nations Framework
Convention on Climate Change negotiations specially on matters pertaining to
the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform.
Ø U.S. aerospace giant Boeing said it was working
with South African Airways and a Dutch biofuel company to make jet fuel from
tobacco seeds. The Dutch firm, SkyNRG,
is boosting its production in South Africa of a hybrid, nicotine-free, tobacco
crop called Solaris with biofuel production expected in the next few years.
Aviation biofuel, made from renewable resources, can reduce carbon emissions by
50 to 80 per cent. Airlines have flown more than 1,500 flights powered by
biofuel globally since 2011.
