Ø The Union Cabinet lifted the restriction of one
LPG cylinder per month to a domestic consumer. While households will still get
only 12 cylinders in a year at subsidised rates, the monthly cap has been
lifted in view of complaints from consumers regarding the limited access to LPG
imposed by the earlier restriction. Now consumers can avail themselves of their
quota of 12 cylinders at any time of the year.
Ø The Commanding Officer-level meeting between
the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Pakistan Rangers that took place
recently was the first since firing at the border escalated. In New Delhi, BSF
Director-General Devendra Kumar Pathak
briefed Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the ground situation. The BSF
chief had visited the affected border areas.
Ø President Pranab Mukherjee honoured 28 persons,
including three journalists and an ISRO scientist, for their outstanding
contribution towards the development and spread of Hindi. The awards for the
years 2010 and 2011 were presented under seven categories at a ceremony held at
Rashtrapati Bhavan. Shamtorf Azad from Uzbekistan and Woo Jo Kim from South
Korea were the two foreign nationals honoured with the Dr. George
Grierson Award for the spread of Hindi in foreign lands. Senior ISRO scientist Kali Shankar was awarded the
Atmaram Award for his writings in Hindi on scientific and technical subjects.
Acclaimed writer Ved Rahi and Asrar Wajahat were given the Mahapandit Rahul
Sanskritayan award for research in Hindi and travelogues.
