Ø  Jammu and Kashmir came under Governor’s rule with no political party coming forward and staking claim to form the government and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah asking to be relieved as caretaker Chief Minister.
Ø  The Supreme Court  quashed a Special Court order summoning chairman-cum-managing director of Bharti Cellular Ltd. Sunil Bharti Mittal and Essar Group promoter Ravi Ruia as accused in a corruption case relating to the allocation of additional 2G spectrum in 2002 during the NDA rule.
Ø  India’s decision to increase the pictorial warnings on tobacco products packaging can serve as an example for other countries, the Canadian Cancer Society, one of largest national cancer charity and funder of cancer research in Canada, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Ø  Wes Anderson’s whimsical drama The Grand Budapest Hotel bagged 11 nominations at the BAFTA awards announced. Stephen Hawking’s biopic The Theory of Everything and superhero drama Birdman followed with 10 apiece. Budapest has received nominations in best film, director and original screenplay category for Wes Anderson, besides original music, cinematography, editing, production design, costume design, make up & hair and sound. In the best film category, it will compete withBirdman , Richard Linklater’s Boyhoo d and biopics The Theory of Everything and The Imitation Game .


Ø  Sri Lanka watchers in India believe that with Maithripala Sirisena coming to power in Sri Lanka, the island nation’s tilt towards China will be reduced considerably. They have been critical of the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa for his “tilt towards China” and ignoring India’s pleas to grant devolution of powers to the Tamil-majority northern region, as he had repeatedly promised.
