Ø  61st National Film Awards were announced on April 16, in New Delhi. 
o   Best Film (Hindi): Jolly LLB
o   Best Actress: Geetanjali Thapa (Liar’s Dice, Hindi)
o   Best Actor: Raj Kumar (Shahid, Hindi) & Suraj Venjaramoodu (Terariyathavar, Malyalam)
o   Supporting Actor (Female) – Aida Elkashef, Ship of Theseus and Amruta Subash, Astu
o   Best Direction: Hansal Mehta for Shahid (Hindi)
o   Special Mention Gauri Gadgil and Sanjana Rai for ‘Yellow’ (Marathi)

Ø  Canada has announced its decision to withhold funding to the Commonwealth Secretariat, pointing to the Secretariat’s silence on alleged war crimes and rights abuse in Sri Lanka, which currently chairs the international association. As host of the 2013 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting and current Chair in Office, Sri Lanka has a duty to take meaningful action on human rights, political reconciliation and accountability. However, Sri Lanka has failed to realise progress on any of these issues.


Ø  The Australian government may take a decision as early as next week on returning to India a bronze Nataraja stolen from a temple in Tamil Nadu controversially acquired by the country’s premier art institution from the antiquities dealer Subhash Kapoor who is now on trial for idol theft and smuggling.
