Modi @ Supreme Court Bhutan which is constructed by India |
Ø Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to nurture bilateral relations with
Bhutan, which he described as “B2B — Bharat to Bhutan,” as he met his
counterpart, Tshering Tobgay, and King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk. At a
banquet hosted by Mr. Tobgay, Mr. Modi said India was committed to Bhutan’s
happiness and progress. He specified areas such as peace, security, development
and tourism to push bilateral ties. Referring to Bhutan’s unique trait of
laying thrust on the Gross National
Happiness rather than the Gross Domestic Product, Mr.
Modi said one of the parameters for measuring this could be the consideration
that it had a neighbour like India. Earlier, Mr. Modi inaugurated the Supreme Court complex
built here by India. He announced doubling of scholarships being provided to
Bhutanese students in India to Rs. 2 crore, and promised to assist Bhutan in
setting up a digital library. Mr. Modi, accompanied by External
Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and
Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh, was received by Mr. Tobgay and his Cabinet
colleagues at the Paro airport.
