Ø AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa’s lawyers will file an appeal against the
special court verdict sentencing her to four-year simple imprisonment
in a disproportionate assets case and also seek her release on bail. AIADMK
Rajya Sabha member A. Navaneethakrishnan told
that a bail application would be moved in the Karnataka High Court. O.
Panneerselvam will be the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He is
assuming the office for the second time under similar circumstances. In
September 2001, AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa had to step down as her
appointment as Chief Minister was quashed by the Supreme Court.
Ø Speaking before a sell-out crowd at New York’s Madison Square
Gardens, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said “We will
