Ø The Narendra Modi government is likely to name Arvind Subramanian as
its Chief Economic Adviser (CEA). Mr. Subramanian is the Dennis Weatherstone
Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics and senior
fellow at the Centre for Global Development.

Ø The key to the slowdown in global warming in
recent years lies in the depths of the Atlantic and Southern oceans where
excess heat is being stored, not the Pacific as has previously been suggested,
according to new research.
Ø To give a fillip to bilateral ties and in
keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Look East policy, External
Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj
will leave for a three-day visit to Vietnam on August 24. The Minister will
meet her counterpart and senior leadership. She has also convened a meeting of
Indian heads of missions in Southeast and East Asian countries and will
inaugurate the 3rd Round Table of India ASEAN think- tank. Bilateral
trade stands at $8 billion, of which Indian exports about $5.4 billion. India
has also, for techno-commercial reasons, decided to extend for another year the
work on exploration of oil blocks allotted to it in the South China Sea. The
exploration was initially scheduled for two years from 2012, but Indian oil
companies have called for an extension.
