Ø Indigenously built stealth anti-submarine
warfare corvette INS Kamorta was commissioned into the Eastern Fleet of the
Indian Navy at a grand ceremony. INS Kamorta is first of the four ASW stealth
corvettes designed by the Navy’s in-house organisation — Directorate of Naval
Design (DND) — under Project 28, with around 90 per cent indigenous component.
The ship is fitted with anti-submarine rockets and torpedoes, medium and
close-in weapon systems and indigenous surveillance radar, Revathi. The ship
has very low radiated underwater noise. Its X form of hull, full beam
superstructure and infra red signature suppression system for cooling the
engine and generator exhausts enhance its stealth features. The ship is well
equipped to fight in nuclear, biological and chemical warfare conditions.
