Ø Barely two-and-a-half months after the Delhi Assembly elections, which
brought the Aam Aadmi Party led by Arvind Kejriwal to power, Central rule was imposed in the State.
Ø Abdul Basit has been appointed as the Pakistan High Commissioner to India. Mr.
Basit joined the Foreign Service in 1982 and has held various assignments in
Pakistan Missions abroad and at the Headquarters. Before his new appointment,
he was the Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany since May 2012. He
will replace Salman Bashir in India.

swearing-in of Justices
Rajesh Kumar Agrawal and Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana by Chief Justice of India P. Sathasivam.
Ø Florence Mayor Matteo Renzi was nominated Italy’s youngest-ever Prime Minister on Monday after a
daring power grab, kicking off a new era in a country thirsting for economic
and political reform. Mr. Renzi (39),
head of the leftist Democratic Party received the nomination to become the
nation’s next Premier after ousting his predecessor Enrico Letta.
