Ø The Government of India has constituted a Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) for removal of difficulties in the interpretation of the Andhra Pradesh
Reorganisation Act, 2014, by the two successor States and for resolution of
disputes between them. The committee will be headed by Union Home Secretary with the Chief Secretaries of Andhra
Pradesh and Telangana, Chairperson of Technical Support Group and Additional
Secretary (CS) in the Union Ministry of Home Affairs as four members. The Centre felt the need for establishment of a
structured mechanism to address the issues as they arise before they turn into
disputes.
Ø “We are losing our Great Indian Bustard,” WWF-India Secretary-General
and CEO, Ravi Singh declared. The total number of birds now was as low as 200,
he said, calling for quick efforts to protect the species.
Ø T.R. Zeliang of the Naga People’s Front was appointed as the
new Chief Minister of Nagaland following the resignation of Neiphiu Rio.
Ø For the first time, NASA has released a ‘global selfie’ created by
combining over 36,000 pictures clicked by individual people from more than 113
countries and regions. For Earth Day (April 22) this year, NASA invited
people around the world to step outside to take a “selfie” and share it with
the world on social media. The “global selfie” mosaic was built using
over 36,000 individual photographs drawn from the more than 50,000 images
tagged #GlobalSelfie and posted on or around Earth Day on several social media
sites.
