Ø Prime Minister Narendra Modi resigned from the Vadodara Lok Sabha
constituency in Gujarat after choosing to retain the Varanasi seat in Uttar Pradesh. The Samajwadi Party leader, Mulayam Singh Yadav, decided to retain Azamgarh and quit
from his traditional stronghold of Mainpuri.
Ø A nondescript village Bapulapadu near Hanuman Junction could be the
location for construction of Cyberabad of Seemandhra, according to sources in
the TDP and the IT industry.
Ø External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj held discussions with United
States Secretary of State John Kerry on the two countries’ shared commitment to
boost trade and economic ties to $500 billion. This was Ms. Swaraj’s first
telephone conversation with a foreign counterpart after assuming charge.
Ø PISAT, a small, 6-kilo satellite spearheaded by PES
University, Bangalore, and sponsored by four engineering colleges from Tamil
Nadu and Kerala is the latest university-driven spacecraft to queue up for
launch into space.
Ø Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) will take control of popular
television news channels CNN-IBN, IBN7, CNBC-TV18, Lokmat, and an entire clutch
of ETV channels with a massive infusion of Rs 4000 crore into Network 18 Media
and TV18 Broadcast Ltd. A
Reliance press statement said the media acquisition, through its Independent
Media Trust, would result in IMT having an ownership of 78 per cent in
Network18 and nine per cent in TV18.
